Invicta Airways
The airline of Kent
Invicta Airways was one of the many of the airlines of the 1960s and 1970s that were charismatic companies although a number were on the inclusive tour and charter scene for a relative short time. Due to the nature of the business many staff members especially aircrew and engineers worked for a number of these companies over the years.
The independent scene was a very close knit community including Invicta Airways.
This site is set up to remember the airline that was based at Manston, Kent throughout its 18 years existence. Starting as Invicta Airways Ltd. The organisation progressed through several name variations until the final and probably the best known version, Invicta International Airlines Ltd.
The various Invicta companies flew six different kind of aircraft. Malcolm Finnis the aviation historian has chronicled the history
of the airline in his book,’ Take off to Touchdown,’.
Invicta originated in late 1964 as a result of a takeover of Air Ferry at Manston with both companies being started up by a well known and leading player in the airline scene ,Wing Commander Hugh Kennard. The Invicta Airways story is told in ,’Take off to Touchdown,’ whilst Air Ferry’s history is covered in, ‘Twilight of the Pistons.’
Both books are readily available through bookshops or directly from the author.
